How Often Should Commercial HVAC Filters Be Changed?

- 1:08 pm - April 18th, 2024

Air filters play a vital part in your commercial HVAC system. They catch dust particles, allergens, and other contaminants and help promote optimal air quality inside your building. A clean air filter also allows your HVAC system to operate efficiently, which can reduce your annual energy spending. In short, it’s important to keep a clean air filter, but how often should you change them?

Replacement Frequency Depends on a Few Things Including:

  • The size of the HVAC system

  • Location of the building

  • Type of HVAC system

  • Type of business

At the very least, your commercial air filters should be changed at least once every three or four months. If your commercial HVAC system is in a factory, restaurant, auto body shop, or other building with heavy machinery and a lot of dust or debris, it should be changed more frequently. The oil, grease, and chemical byproducts can clog your air filters faster, reduce the efficiency of your system, and lower the indoor air quality.

Where Are the Air Filters in Your Commercial HVAC System Located?

This depends on what kind of commercial HVAC system you have. For rooftop HVAC units, you will need to access the roof to change the air filter. You can always contact Parker Oil & Propane for assistance finding or changing your commercial air filters. Our highly experienced technicians can provide prompt and reliable HVAC services.

What MERV rating is needed for commercial buildings?

A Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating indicates how air filters are rated to remove particles in the air. On a scale from 1 – 16, the higher the MERV rating, the better the filter is at removing small particulates. Finding the perfect MERV-rated air filter also depends on your building, but ASHRAE recommends MERV 13 filters or greater for commercial buildings.

Commercial buildings in the South Hill, Virginia, area can rely on Parker Oil & Propane for their commercial HVAC services. We can help you locate, change, and maintain your commercial air filters and equipment.
